Introduction

Hospital Garcia de Orta Cardiology Department will organize the meeting South Side of the Heart 2018, from the 26th to the 28th of September, in Almada. This meeting will also integrate the collaboration of the Internal Medicine and Intensive Medicine Departments.

This event stems from the need for specific training in the emerging areas of cardiovascular intervention, in which interventional cardiology interconnects with the fields of valvular disease, heart failure and thromboembolic pulmonary vascular disease.

South Side of the Heart 2018 promises to fill a gap in training in these areas of innovation, drawing national and international experts who stand out most in their chosen areas of differentiation.

Of eminently practical nature, there will be a room dedicated to cardiovascular intervention, where four expert-oriented live in a box sessions will be presented, focusing on pulmonary balloon angioplasty, percutaneous intervention in the mitral and tricuspid valves, complete revascularization and hemodynamic support in left ventricular failure. These sessions will include not only the demonstration of the technical aspects of the intervention, but also the scientific evidence supporting it, in order to fulfill the educational objectives defined at the beginning of each session.

Acute and chronic pulmonary embolism, acute heart failure and cardiogenic shock will be addressed in a parallel room during interactive sessions using clinical cases presented and discussed by internal medicine and intensive medicine experts.

Included in the program of the event will be two courses and two workshops: "Update in oral anticoagulation in patients with atrial fibrillation", aimed at general and family medicine physicians, "Cardiac involvement in systemic diseases: when a specialist is not enough! "for cardiologists and internal medicine physicians, the workshop" Cardiac Rehabilitation in Heart Failure and Pulmonary Hypertension ", aimed at cardiology and physiatry and finally the workshop “Hemodynamic support in high risk PCI. Practical issues”. The "Heading South" morning walk closes the program by promoting both cardiac rehabilitation and the adoption of a healthy lifestyle.

South Side of the Heart 2018 is both an educational event and an opportunity to share knowledge with national and international experts. We welcome you to the South Side of the Heart 2018.
